Whether it’s you, or someone you love, it happens to everyone sooner or later.
There you are going through life with relatively good health. Then a trip to the doctor over some unusual symptoms draws you deeper and deeper into the health care maze of tests and prescriptions and visits to specialists until finally you hear the words, “I’m awfully sorry, but you have …” You’ve just been given a scary diagnosis. Life as you’ve known it is over.
As described in this book, this is what happened to Alan Geller, a self described “average” guy. He no longer believes that life is over but that it’s really just begun. And now, in this book full of comfort, sane advice, and hope, he gives readers, whether they are the patient or bystander, the benefits of his experiences, showing them:
When faced with a health crisis you need to be focused on doing whatever it takes to maximize your chances of your best possible outcome. Defining options and making informed decisions is what this book is all about. Scary Diagnosis will help you take charge of your health and life.

What Others Are Saying About Scary Diagnosis!
Often associated with a scary diagnosis is fear and vulnerability. This can stifle or enliven our journey. Alan Geller has taken the latter approach and shows the reader how healing must take into consideration the whole human being, not just the removal of visible symptoms or ailments. This book shines with an exquisite straightforwardness and is a remarkably clear and practical guide that will move you into action and into health. An insightful reference for patients and practitioners alike. As Alan himself says, "Take the lead and take control."

A must read for anyone who has ever suffered a serious illness and a frightening diagnosis – and the likely subsequent physical and mental, not to mention financial, assault by the so-called medical community. If you care about your health and/or your health education, please run, do not walk, to your local bookstore, or better yet, get on Amazon.com or on Alan’s website www.ScaryDiagnosis.com ASAP and beg, borrow, or steal a copy of Scary Diagnosis.

When Mr. or Mrs. Patient comes to our office with a scary diagnosis, we discuss goals, values, possible causes, various options for treatment, sources of information, and dental issues that may be factors in that diagnosis. We encourage responsibility for one’s own health management. We recommend books and websites to aid patients in learning more about the science behind the treatments we suggest, and ask them to make their own choices/decisions based on real information – not tradition, dictum, or “what should I do, doctor?” Alan Geller has taken on the challenge of researching this subject exhaustively, has made his choices, and has reversed the prognosis for the scary diagnosis he himself was given. Now he is offering what I think is a tremendous gift to you, the reader, and to my patients – an outstanding reference of focused scientific research. Thank you, Alan, for giving me another resource for my work. I am adding your book to my list of suggested learning sources, and will be putting it into the hands of many of my patients.

The lowest point in my journey as a patient happened the day my gastroenterologist dismissed me from his office, saying I was ‘”noncompliant” after I refused to continue with the non-productive use of steroids and aminosalicylic acid treatment (standard for this disease). I was watching my symptoms worsen – the treatment regimen was only a band-aid at best. My next choice was radical surgery. Although my diagnosis is different from Alan’s, he had researched and discussed Low Dose Naltrexone as it relates to autoimmune diseases, of which colitis is one. I began the regimen in January 2005. By August I was symptom-free. To this date, I am well and healthy. Never had I experienced any alleviation of my symptoms until I started on LDN.

Al Geller gives you permission to take control of your health. When it comes to healing, there is no magic bullet. You will laugh, cry, and empathize with Al and you’ll learn along the way – about yourself and the medicine that is available. Questions and research and having an open mind are the best elixir for taking control of what ails you. Al’s story is engaging. He is an inquisitive and skeptical author and you’ll be glad you read his story.
